I Had My Son Do a DNA Test Which Confirmed Paternity, but Then His Fiancée’s Mother Called and Left Me Totally Shocked

Please allow me to present you to Ryan, my son. While in university, he went through the typical highs and lows, studied late into the night, and partied on occasion. But in his last year of high school, he told me something surprising that changed the nature of our family life forever. The news that Ryan's girlfriend Shelly was expecting a child was shared with me.

Now that he's a bit older, Ryan has matured into a good young man; he's mature, kind, and naive when it comes to matters of the heart. Consequently, when he told me, I wanted to verify he wasn't going into anything blind. I suggested obtaining a DNA test just to be on the safe side. Thanks be to God, Ryan listened to the counsel and finished the exam. He eagerly embraced the opportunity to assist Shelly and start a committed relationship after learning he was the father.

I had a feeling we wouldn't get along the second we met Shelly. Concerning the DNA test, she approached me and accused me of presumptuousness. The damage was already done, even though I tried to explain that it was only a precaution and the usual advice I would provide in a similar situation. Nothing ever improved in our relationship, even after she was welcomed into the family. In an effort to maintain harmony, I've resolved to keep my distance, being courteous at family events but otherwise keeping my distance.

Ryan proposed to Shelly after their passion blossomed. At that point, everything began to go wrong. Shelly began trash-talking me to anybody who would listen, for reasons only she understood. She made me out to be this monster by making my words and actions seem horrible. She seemed hell-bent on turning my own family against me, and the worst part was that it was working. My son felt forced to choose between his future wife and his mother. I was blackmailed into attending Shelly's wedding by his threat to remove me unless I professed my regret for an unfounded accusation.

Something uncomfortable happened to me. Admitting guilt for defamation and falsehoods would require me to express regret for actions I had not taken, but remaining steadfast would mean missing out on one of my son's most momentous occasions. I stood by my principles and refused to apologize for wrongdoings I hadn't done.

So, the wedding was skipped over. Because they believed Shelly's tales at face value, my loved ones forsook me, and the fallout was quick and painful. During that time, I spent a lot of time alone thinking about what went wrong and how I might fix it.

Then, out of the blue, I received a call two weeks before the wedding, which would further complicate things. Jen was there; I had little contact with her due to my strained connection with Shelly, her daughter. Her voice sounded anxious and rushed, and it put me on edge right away.

Hi there. It is of the utmost importance that you come to me in your vehicle.

Afterwards, she revealed something unexpected to me. The weight of her hastily said words took some time for me to grasp. Her bold and abrupt statement, "We need to cancel the wedding," briefly halted me in my tracks. It became clear to me that Shelly had lied throughout. I can't stand by while your son's life is ruined like this.

Took my heart a little diversion. But on what basis? As I responded, "The test revealed he is the father," my mind raced with all the possible consequences of her remark.

What Jen wanted to know next caught me off guard. "Your son ought to have clarified where the test was going to be held." Upon realizing that Ryan had omitted any pertinent information, an unpleasant sensation began to take hold of me. As Jen confessed, everything started to fall into place in the most unsettling of ways.

It was Jen's ex-husband, Shelly's father, who arranged for the paternity test. Neither Ryan nor I knew this. It was Jen's firm belief that the results we had been given were not accurate.

My pulse was racing as I became aware of the gravity of the situation. The actual test results were never shown to Ryan; he had only ever heard the conclusions from Shelly's father. The reality hit me like a freight train: deep down, we had been deceived.

As more and more of the truth emerged, Shelly's web of lies unraveled like a sweater's thread in the days that followed. Shelly had been unknowingly pregnant while seeing other guys, it turned out. Shelly took advantage of our family's financial stability by putting her faith in Ryan, my son, even though Ryan's biological father was destitute.

It had catastrophic results. The person with whom Ryan had planned to make a life had violated his confidence, and this had a devastating effect on him. When faced with the deceit, the family was left in a state of chaos.
