Servings

2 small jars (about 1½ cups total)

Ingredients

1 pound fruit (about 5 cups, chopped) – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, or any fruit of your choice

¾ cup sugar (adjust to taste based on the fruit’s sweetness)

3 tablespoons lemon juice (freshly squeezed works best)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Fruit

Wash, peel (if necessary), and chop the fruit into small pieces. For berries, you can leave them whole or mash them slightly depending on your desired texture.

Step 2: Cook the Jam

In a medium-sized pan, combine the chopped fruit, sugar , and lemon juice over medium heat . Stir to mix well.

Use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to mash the fruit as it cooks, releasing its juices and creating a jam-like consistency.

Once the sugar has fully dissolved, increase the heat to high . Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring frequently to prevent sticking or burning.

Cook for 15–20 minutes , or until the mixture thickens. To test if it’s ready, place a small spoonful of jam on a chilled plate—if it holds its shape and doesn’t run, it’s done.

Step 3: Store the Jam

Remove the pan from the heat and let the jam cool slightly.

Pour the warm jam into 2 clean jars (sterilized if storing long-term). Leave about ½ inch of space at the top.

Pro Tips

Sugar Adjustment: Taste the fruit before adding sugar. If the fruit is naturally sweet, you can reduce the sugar to ½ cup.

Pectin-Free Option: This recipe doesn’t require added pectin, but if you want a firmer jam, you can add 1 teaspoon of powdered pectin while cooking.

Storage: For longer storage, process the sealed jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to make them shelf-stable.

Mix It Up: Combine fruits like strawberry-rhubarb, peach-apricot, or raspberry-blueberry for unique flavor combinations.
